Rajasthan’s ‘Silicon Valley’ to Come Up Near Jaipur; Hi-Tech City to Be Modelled on Visakhapatnam and Telangana

Jaipur: In a major push to transform Rajasthan into a technology-driven economy, the state government has announced plans to develop a Hi-Tech City near Jaipur, being described as Rajasthan’s own ‘Silicon Valley’. The ambitious project is expected to be modelled on the successful Visakhapatnam IT hub and Telangana’s Hi-Tech City framework, aiming to create a world-class technology and innovation ecosystem.

Silicon Valley

According to officials, the proposed New Jaipur Smart City project will focus on information technology, electronics manufacturing, startups, research and development, and emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, fintech, and green technologies. The initiative is being positioned as a long-term solution to curb youth migration from Rajasthan to cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Gurugram for employment opportunities.

Employment and economic boost

State government sources said the hi-tech city will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, particularly for engineering graduates, IT professionals, and skilled workers from Rajasthan. The project aims to ensure that students completing their education in the state can find high-quality employment opportunities locally, reducing the talent drain.

“The objective is to make Jaipur and its surrounding areas a preferred destination for technology companies and startups. This will not only strengthen employment but also significantly boost Rajasthan’s economy,” an official said.

Infrastructure and planning

The hi-tech city will be developed with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including smart roads, high-speed internet connectivity, data centres, plug-and-play office spaces, incubation centres, residential zones, and social infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and recreational facilities.

Officials said the city will follow integrated urban planning principles, combining workspaces with housing and public transport to ensure ease of living. Sustainable development, renewable energy usage, and smart governance systems are expected to be key components of the project.

Learning from proven models

The government plans to adopt best practices from Telangana’s Hi-Tech City in Hyderabad, which has become a global IT destination, and Visakhapatnam’s emerging technology ecosystem, known for its planned development and industry-friendly policies.

Industry consultations are underway to ensure the new city aligns with the needs of global technology firms as well as Indian startups. Incentives such as tax benefits, ease-of-doing-business reforms, and single-window clearances are also being considered to attract investments.

Vision of ‘Developed Rajasthan’

The hi-tech city is being seen as a milestone project in achieving the vision of a ‘Developed Rajasthan’, with leaders emphasising that technological growth will play a crucial role in diversifying the state’s economy beyond traditional sectors.

Once implemented, the project is expected to position Jaipur as a major IT and innovation hub in North India, putting Rajasthan firmly on the national and global technology map.

Further details regarding land acquisition, timelines, and investment size are expected to be announced in the coming months as the project moves into the execution phase.
