The recognition was conferred by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, which oversees water resource management and irrigation-related initiatives across the country. Officials noted that Rajasthan stood out for completing the extensive data collection and verification process within the stipulated timeline.

The Irrigation Census is a crucial nationwide exercise aimed at gathering detailed information on irrigation sources, infrastructure, water usage, and agricultural practices. The data plays a key role in shaping policies for water conservation, irrigation planning, and sustainable agriculture.

According to officials, Rajasthan’s success was largely driven by a well-coordinated approach that included extensive training sessions and workshops at multiple administrative levels. Field staff, supervisors, and data managers were trained to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely reporting.

The state government deployed digital tools and streamlined monitoring systems to track progress in real time, enabling quick resolution of challenges during the survey process. Regular reviews and feedback mechanisms further helped maintain the pace and quality of the work.

Senior officials said the award reflects the dedication of field workers and the effectiveness of capacity-building efforts. “The structured training programmes and workshops played a vital role in accelerating the entire process and ensuring reliable data collection,” an official stated.

Experts believe that the accurate irrigation data gathered through the census will support Rajasthan in better planning water resource management, especially given its arid and semi-arid geography.

The achievement has also set a benchmark for other states, demonstrating how strong coordination, training, and use of technology can lead to efficient implementation of large-scale national surveys.
