Ramol Police Bust Honey-Trap Gang Posing as Fake Officers, Three Arrested

Ahmedabad: The Ramol Police Station on Wednesday busted a honey-trap racket operating in the city and arrested three men who allegedly posed as police officers to extort money from victims.

According to officials, the accused were part of a well-organised gang that targeted unsuspecting individuals through women accomplices. The women would allegedly befriend victims, lure them to private locations, and create compromising situations. Soon after, other gang members would arrive at the scene, impersonating police personnel, and threaten the victims with legal action.

Police said the accused would claim that a complaint had been filed against the victim and demand large sums of money to “settle” the matter and avoid arrest. Fearful of public embarrassment and legal consequences, several victims reportedly paid the demanded amounts.

How the Racket Operated

Investigators revealed that the gang carefully planned each operation. The women accomplices initiated contact through social media or phone calls and gradually built trust with the targets. Once the victim agreed to meet, the trap was executed.

The men posing as police officers would then storm in, flash fake identification, and accuse the victim of immoral or illegal activities. They allegedly used intimidation tactics, including threats of filing cases or informing family members, to extort money.

Arrest and Investigation

The crackdown followed a complaint lodged by one of the victims who approached the police after being blackmailed. Acting on the tip-off, Ramol Police laid a trap and apprehended the three accused.

During the investigation, police recovered fake identification cards and other materials used to impersonate law enforcement officers. Authorities are now probing whether more individuals were involved in the racket and if additional victims were targeted.

Police Warning to Public

Police officials have urged citizens to exercise caution while interacting with strangers, especially through social media platforms. They also advised people not to panic if threatened by individuals claiming to be police officers and to immediately verify credentials or approach the nearest police station.

Further investigation is underway to identify the women accomplices and uncover the full extent of the honey-trap network. Authorities have assured strict legal action against those involved in the fraudulent scheme.
