Row Erupts After Former BJP MP Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria Allegedly Turns Away Muslim Women at Charity Event

A controversy has broken out after a video surfaced on social media purportedly showing former BJP MP Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria turning away Muslim women during a blanket distribution programme.

The incident reportedly took place at a charity event organised to distribute blankets to underprivileged people. In the video clip, which has since gone viral, Mr. Jaunapuria is seen interacting with women who had come to receive blankets. He is heard asking for their names before handing over the aid.

In the footage, when one woman identifies herself as Shakuran Bano, the former MP appears to react sharply and allegedly asks her to step aside and leave the blanket behind. The video shows a brief exchange, following which the woman moves away from the queue.

The clip has triggered widespread criticism on social media, with several political leaders and civil society members condemning the alleged act as discriminatory. Opposition parties have accused the former MP of communal bias and demanded an explanation.

Supporters of Mr. Jaunapuria, however, claimed that the video was being circulated without full context and that the incident was being misrepresented. They argued that the distribution process may have involved specific eligibility criteria.

There has been no official statement from Mr. Jaunapuria at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, local party leaders have sought to distance themselves from the controversy, stating that charity initiatives should be inclusive and non-discriminatory.

The incident has reignited debate over communal harmony and the responsibilities of public representatives, especially during welfare and relief programmes intended for economically weaker sections.
