Rumours of Fuel Crisis Trigger Panic in Lakhimpur Kheri; Officials Say Supply Is Normal

Rumours of a fuel shortage linked to the ongoing tensions in West Asia spread panic among residents in parts of Lakhimpur Kheri, leading to long queues at petrol pumps as people rushed to fill their vehicle tanks.

Panic Buying at Petrol Pumps

According to officials, the panic began after messages circulated claiming that the conflict involving Iran could disrupt global fuel supplies and lead to shortages in India. Fearing a possible crisis, residents in areas such as Nighasan, Pallia and Bhira hurried to petrol stations to buy petrol and diesel.

The sudden rush caused long queues outside several fuel stations, creating temporary disruption in normal operations.

Authorities Dismiss Rumours

However, the district administration quickly stepped in to calm the situation. District Supply Officer Anjani Kumar Singh clarified that the rumours about shortages of petrol, diesel or LPG were completely baseless.

He assured residents that adequate stocks of petroleum products were available in the district and urged people to purchase fuel only according to their needs.

Warning Against Hoarding

Officials also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found hoarding petrol or diesel in an attempt to exploit the situation. The administration said it is closely monitoring petrol pumps to ensure normal supply and prevent misuse.

Administration Appeals for Calm

District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal also appealed to residents not to panic and not to believe unverified messages circulating on social media. Local fuel dealers and LPG distributors confirmed that there is sufficient stock available to meet demand.

Authorities have urged the public to rely only on official information and avoid spreading rumours that could create unnecessary panic.
