Goa Police confirmed that Aleksei Leonov, a Russian citizen, was arrested in connection with the brutal killings of Elena Vaneeva and Elena Kasthanova, both aged 37. The murders took place in the popular tourist villages of Morjim and Arambol in north Goa.

Police officials stated that the first murder occurred on January 14 in Morjim village. Leonov allegedly slit the throat of Elena Vaneeva inside her rented room late at night.

The incident reportedly happened after 11 pm, and her landlady later filed a complaint after noticing suspicious activity, leading to police intervention.

Elena Kasthanova Tied and Killed in Arambol Village

On January 15 evening, Leonov traveled to Arambol village, located around eight kilometres from Morjim, to meet Elena Kasthanova. According to police, he allegedly tied her with a rope-like material before slitting her throat, indicating a premeditated crime.


Bodies Recovered and Police Investigation Underway

Both bodies were recovered on Friday, following police searches and inquiries. Leonov was arrested by the Mandrem police station team, and a detailed investigation has been launched.

Police are examining the motive, relationship history, and movements of the accused. Authorities are also conducting forensic tests and interrogations to uncover whether there were personal disputes or other criminal factors involved.
