Chennai:Ā Veteran political leader V. K. SasikalaĀ has officially announced the name of her new political party as All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, marking a significant development in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

Munnetra Kazhagam

Sasikala made the announcement after weeks of speculation about her plans to launch a new political platform. The party’s name reflects a tribute to M. G. Ramachandran, popularly known as Puratchi Thalaivar, whose legacy continues to influence politics in the state.

Earlier, on February 24, 2026, Sasikala had unveiled the party’s official flagĀ during a large public gathering held in KamuthiĀ in RamanathapuramĀ district. The event attracted a large number of supporters and party workers, signalling the formal launch of her political movement.

During the meeting, Sasikala emphasised her commitment to

strengthening the political ideals associated with the legacy of former leadersĀ and promised to work for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. She said the new party would focus on social justice, economic development, and welfare schemes for ordinary citizens.

Political observers believe the formation of the new party could influence the dynamics of Tamil Nadu politics, especially among supporters who identify with the political traditions linked to M. G. Ramachandran and the broader Dravidian movement.

Supporters of Sasikala said the new organisation aims to mobilise grassroots workers and build a strong political base across the state. The leadership is expected to begin organisational activities, including appointing office-bearers and expanding the party’s presence in districts.

With the announcement of the party name and earlier unveiling of its flag, Sasikala has taken a major step toward establishing her independent political identityĀ in the state’s competitive political arena. šŸ›ļø
