In a major relief to popular YouTuber and reality show winner Elvish Yadav, the Supreme Court of India has quashed the criminal proceedings against him in the controversial snake venom case linked to alleged rave parties in Noida.

🔍 What Was the Case About?

The case dates back to November 2023, when an FIR was registered alleging that snake venom was being procured and used as a recreational drug at rave parties in the NCR region.

  • Yadav was accused of arranging snake venom and organizing such parties.

  • He was arrested in March 2024 by Noida Police in connection with the case.

  • Charges were filed under:

    • Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act

    • Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972

    • Relevant sections of the IPC

Authorities had also claimed recovery of snakes and venom during raids, though no direct recovery was made from Yadav himself.

⚖️ What Did the Supreme Court Say?

A bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh ruled that the case could not be sustained in law and quashed the FIR along with all subsequent proceedings.

Key observations:

  • 🧪 NDPS Act not applicable:The alleged substance linked to the case was not listed as a banned psychotropic substance under the Act.

  • 🐍 Wildlife Act violation invalid:Proceedings were flawed because no complaint was filed by an authorised officer, which is mandatory under law.

  • ❗ No direct evidence:The court noted no recovery of snake venom from Yadav and weak linkage with co-accused.

  • 📄 FIR legally unsustainable:Due to these legal gaps, the FIR and chargesheet were declared invalid.

However, the court allowed that fresh action could be taken if proper legal procedures are followed.

🧾 Background of the Controversy

The case gained massive attention due to Yadav’s popularity and allegations that:

  • Snake venom was used as a party drug

  • Foreign nationals attended these rave events

  • Videos involving snakes were created for online content

The case also led to investigations by multiple agencies and widespread media coverage.

🗣️ Elvish Yadav’s Reaction

Following the verdict, Yadav expressed relief and questioned the impact of the case on his life:

  • He said he had faith in the judiciary

  • Raised concerns about the “harassment” faced by him and his family during the investigation

📌 Conclusion

The Supreme Court’s decision effectively clears Elvish Yadav of criminal liability in this case, citing legal and procedural lapses. The ruling also highlights the importance of strict adherence to statutory requirements in criminal prosecutions.
