‘Semiconductor Projects Worth ₹1.24 Lakh Crore Being Developed in Gujarat’: Minister Ahead of SemiConnect Conference

Ahead of the upcoming SemiConnect Conference, Gujarat government officials have announced that semiconductor projects worth ₹1.24 lakh crore are currently under development in the state, positioning Gujarat as a key hub in India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

Semiconductor Projects

A senior state minister stated that Gujarat has emerged as a preferred destination for chip manufacturing and semiconductor-related investments, thanks to proactive industrial policies, infrastructure readiness, and strong coordination with the Centre.

Strategic Push for Semiconductor Ecosystem

The projects form part of India’s broader push to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing under national-level initiatives aimed at reducing import dependency and boosting high-tech production.

The state government has highlighted the development of semiconductor fabrication units, assembly and testing facilities, and ancillary component manufacturing plants. Officials said these projects are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while also fostering technology transfer and skill development.

Dholera and Sanand as Key Hubs

Much of the semiconductor investment is being concentrated in industrial zones such as Dholera Special Investment Region and Sanand, which offer plug-and-play infrastructure, power reliability, and connectivity advantages.

Gujarat’s Semiconductor Policy, which provides incentives such as capital subsidies, land support, and infrastructure assistance, has reportedly played a major role in attracting investors.

SemiConnect Conference Focus

The upcoming SemiConnect Conference is expected to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and technology experts to discuss advancements in semiconductor manufacturing, supply chains, and design innovation.

State officials indicated that the event will showcase Gujarat’s preparedness in supporting semiconductor fabrication, chip packaging, and electronics manufacturing services. The conference is also likely to focus on research collaboration, skilling initiatives, and partnerships between academia and industry.

Boost to India’s Tech Ambitions

India has been actively working to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem amid global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical shifts affecting chip availability. Gujarat’s large-scale investments are seen as a crucial step in achieving self-reliance in critical technologies.

The minister emphasized that semiconductor manufacturing is not only an economic priority but also a strategic imperative, given the growing demand for chips across sectors such as automotive, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and defence.

Economic and Employment Impact

With projects worth ₹1.24 lakh crore underway, Gujarat is expected to witness a significant boost in industrial growth, exports, and skilled employment. Training programs and partnerships with technical institutions are also being planned to prepare a workforce capable of meeting the demands of advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

As India accelerates efforts to become a global semiconductor hub, Gujarat’s expanding project pipeline is being projected as a major milestone in the country’s high-technology manufacturing journey.
