Six Stanzas, Slogans and Stormy Scenes: Madhya Pradesh Budget Session Begins on High Pitch

All six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ sung for the first time as Assembly witnesses charged atmosphere on opening day.

 Budget Session

Bhopal:The Budget Session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced on an intense note in Bhopal, marked by symbolic gestures, loud sloganeering, and a politically charged atmosphere.

In a first for the House, all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ — the national song written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee — were sung in unison by members at the start of the session. The move was described by the ruling side as a tribute to India’s cultural heritage and patriotic spirit.

Historic Rendition in the House

Traditionally, only select portions of ‘Vande Mataram’ are sung during official occasions. However, on this occasion, legislators collectively rendered all six stanzas, making it a notable moment in the Assembly’s proceedings.

Members from the treasury benches hailed the gesture as historic, while some opposition leaders questioned the intent behind the move, arguing that legislative focus should remain on pressing public issues.

Slogans and Disruptions

Soon after the ceremonial beginning, the House witnessed uproar as opposition members raised slogans over various state issues, including governance, law and order, and economic concerns. The protests led to brief adjournments as the Speaker attempted to restore order.

The government, however, maintained that the Budget Session would focus on development initiatives, fiscal planning, and welfare measures for the upcoming financial year.

Key Agenda Ahead

The session is expected to see the presentation of the state Budget, debates on policy matters, and discussions on infrastructure, agriculture, employment, and social welfare schemes.

Political observers say the charged start signals a stormy session ahead, with both ruling and opposition parties gearing up for intense debates.

Despite the disruptions, the ceremonial singing of all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ stood out as the defining moment of the opening day.
