The incident reportedly occurred when a large number of devotees had gathered at the temple, leading to overcrowding and panic. According to officials, the situation spiralled out of control, resulting in a stampede that left several people dead and many others injured.

Local authorities, along with police and emergency teams, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while efforts were made to clear the crowd and restore order in the area.

In response to the tragedy, the Bihar government announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹6 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Officials also assured that the injured would receive proper medical care and necessary assistance.

To prevent further chaos and allow authorities to manage the situation, the temple has been temporarily closed. Senior officials are monitoring the developments closely, and an inquiry is expected to determine the exact cause of the stampede, including whether there were lapses in crowd management or safety arrangements.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter crowd control measures at religious gatherings, especially during peak periods when large numbers of devotees assemble.

Authorities have urged people to remain calm and cooperate with officials as efforts continue to stabilise the situation in Nalanda.
