“The Crowd Chanting ‘Dube, Dube’ During Medal Ceremony Still Feels Unreal”: Shivam Dube Relives T20 World Cup Triumph

India’s power-hitting all-rounder Shivam Dube has opened up about the unforgettable emotions he experienced after India’s historic triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, saying the memory of thousands of fans chanting his name during the medal ceremony is still fresh in his mind.

Speaking about the moment, Dube recalled the electrifying atmosphere at the stadium when the Indian team walked up to collect their medals. As his name echoed through the crowd, fans began chanting “Dube, Dube,” creating a moment that the all-rounder described as one of the most emotional highlights of his career.

“Standing there with the medal around my neck and hearing the crowd shout my name gave me an incredible high,” Dube said. “Those moments don’t come often in a cricketer’s career. It was something I had dreamt about since childhood.”

Six-Hitting Role in India’s Campaign

During the tournament, Dube played a crucial role as India’s designated power-hitter in the middle order. His ability to clear the boundaries under pressure helped India accelerate in the middle overs, often shifting the momentum in key matches.

The left-hander said his role in the team was clearly defined. The management wanted him to attack the spinners and pace bowlers alike, especially during the middle phase of the innings.

“I knew my job was to go out and hit big,” he explained. “Sometimes you have only a few balls to make an impact in T20 cricket. My focus was on maximizing every opportunity and helping the team post competitive totals.”

Comparing His Two T20 Titles

Dube also reflected on the difference between the two T20 titles he has won in his career. While domestic and franchise victories had been special, he admitted that lifting the World Cup with the Indian team carried a completely different emotional weight.

According to him, representing India on the biggest stage and winning a global tournament brings unmatched pride and responsibility.

“Winning any title is special, but doing it for India in a World Cup is on another level,” he said. “You realize how much it means to millions of fans back home.”

The Semifinal Relay Catch with Axar Patel

One of the memorable moments of India’s campaign came during the semifinal when Dube and Axar Patel pulled off a stunning relay catch near the boundary line. The athletic effort helped dismiss a dangerous batter and turned the momentum in India’s favour.

Dube said the catch was a result of instinct and trust between teammates.

“It happened so quickly. I knew I might step over the boundary, so I pushed the ball back inside, and Axar finished it perfectly. Those moments show how well the team was working together.”

A Moment to Cherish Forever

Looking back at the tournament, Dube said the victory will remain one of the most cherished memories of his life. The chants from the crowd, the celebrations with teammates, and the pride of bringing the trophy home are moments he says will stay with him forever.

“For a cricketer, hearing fans chant your name after winning a World Cup is the ultimate reward,” Dube said. “That feeling will stay with me for the rest of my life.” 🏏🇮🇳
