According to officials, the arrests were made after the actress lodged a complaint with the cybercrime authorities stating that several individuals had been circulating offensive and defamatory posts targeting her online. The posts reportedly contained abusive language and personal attacks, which the actress said caused harassment and mental distress.

Following the complaint, the cybercrime police registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Indian Penal Code related to online harassment, defamation and posting objectionable content.

During the investigation, officials tracked the social media accounts used to share the abusive posts. After verifying digital evidence and identifying the suspects, police arrested two individuals believed to be responsible for uploading the offensive content.

Police officials said the accused were questioned regarding their involvement and the origin of the posts. Authorities are also examining whether other individuals were involved in spreading similar abusive content online.

Anasuya Bharadwaj, who is known for her work in television shows and films, had earlier spoken publicly about facing trolling and harassment on social media. She urged authorities to take strict action against those who misuse online platforms to target individuals with abusive remarks.

The police reiterated that cyber harassment and online abuse are punishable offences, and warned that strict action will be taken against those found spreading defamatory or offensive content on the internet.

Officials added that the investigation is ongoing and further action may be taken if more individuals are found involved in the case.
