Two Dead, 15 Rescued After Three-Storey Building Collapses in Kota

Kota: Two people died and at least 13 others were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Kota on Friday, officials said. Rescue teams pulled a total of 15 people out from under the debris following hours of intensive operations.

Three-Storey Building Collapses

The incident occurred in a densely populated locality of the city, triggering panic among residents. Locals reported hearing a loud cracking sound moments before the structure gave way, sending dust and debris into the surrounding area.

Rescue Operation

Police, fire brigade personnel and teams from the State Disaster Response Force rushed to the spot soon after the collapse. Using cranes and cutting equipment, rescuers worked through the rubble to locate those trapped beneath the debris.

“In total, 15 people were taken out of the debris. While two have died, some of the injured were discharged after treatment. A probe will be ordered to ascertain the facts, and action will follow,” a Cabinet Minister said while visiting the site.

Several of the injured were shifted to nearby government hospitals, where doctors said most are out of danger.

Cause Under Investigation

Preliminary reports suggest the building may have been structurally weak, though the exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Officials said it is being examined whether recent construction work, illegal alterations or poor maintenance contributed to the incident.

Municipal authorities have sealed the area and initiated an inspection of adjoining buildings to prevent further mishaps.

Government Response

Senior district officials visited the site to monitor rescue efforts. The state government has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured assistance to those affected.

Authorities said a formal inquiry will be ordered to determine accountability, and strict action will be taken if negligence is established.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about building safety standards and enforcement of construction norms in rapidly growing urban centres like Kota.
