Uttarakhand Education Staff Announce Boycott Over Alleged Assault on Director by BJP MLA Supporters

Employees of the Education Department in Uttarakhand have announced a statewide boycott of work following the alleged assault of a senior department director, reportedly by supporters of a BJP MLA. The incident has triggered widespread resentment among government staff and led to calls for immediate action against those involved.

According to employee representatives, the director was allegedly manhandled during a confrontation linked to administrative matters. The incident sparked outrage within the department, with staff unions convening an emergency meeting to discuss their course of action.

At the meeting, employee leaders strongly condemned the alleged assault and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. They warned that if no action is taken within two days, government offices across the State — from nagar panchayats to the State Secretariat — will boycott work starting February 25.

Union representatives said the decision was taken to safeguard the dignity and security of government officials. “If officers are not safe while performing their duties, it will severely impact administrative functioning,” a spokesperson said.

The employees have also urged the State government to ensure strict legal action and provide protection to officials in sensitive positions. They maintained that their protest is aimed at upholding institutional respect and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued by the BJP MLA concerned at the time of reporting. Senior government officials have appealed for calm and assured that the matter is being looked into.

If the boycott proceeds as planned, it could disrupt public services across Uttarakhand, affecting administrative operations at multiple levels. Further developments are expected as the deadline set by employee unions approaches.
