Uttarakhand Education Staff to Boycott Work Over Alleged Assault of Director by BJP MLA Supporters

Dehradun: Education department employees across Uttarakhand have announced a statewide boycott of work following the alleged assault of a senior education official by supporters of a BJP MLA.

According to employee unions, the incident involved the Director of the Education Department, who was allegedly manhandled during a confrontation at his office. The staff have condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the dignity of government officers and an attempt to intimidate public servants.

Emergency Meeting and Decision

In an emergency meeting held by various employees’ associations, members resolved to launch a phased protest if immediate action is not taken against those responsible.

Union leaders said that if the accused individuals are not arrested within two days, all government offices across the State — from nagar panchayats to the State Secretariat — will boycott work starting February 25.

“This is not just about one officer. It is about protecting the functioning and independence of government institutions,” a union representative said.

Demand for Swift Arrest

The employees have demanded:

  • Immediate arrest of the accused

  • Assurance of safety for government officials

  • Clear action against political interference in administrative matters

They warned that failure to act promptly could lead to larger demonstrations and prolonged disruption of government services.

Government Response

Officials said the matter is under investigation and appropriate legal steps will be taken based on findings. Police have reportedly begun collecting statements and reviewing CCTV footage from the premises where the alleged incident occurred.

Political reactions have also surfaced, with opposition parties criticizing the incident and demanding accountability, while BJP representatives have called for a fair probe into the allegations.

Possible Impact

If the boycott proceeds as planned, essential administrative services across Uttarakhand may be affected, impacting public services at multiple levels of governance.

Further developments are awaited as the two-day deadline set by the employees’ unions approaches.
