Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has called for statewide protests against the recent increase in LPG cylinder prices, accusing the Central government of putting an additional financial burden on common people.

Speaking at a public gathering, Banerjee criticized the policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre, stating that the rising prices of essential commodities such as cooking gas were making life difficult for ordinary households. She urged party workers and citizens to raise their voices through democratic protests.

During her speech, Banerjee also launched a sharp attack on the ruling party at the Centre, saying the government is dependent on the support of allies like N. Chandrababu Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party. She claimed that the central government’s stability relies heavily on coalition partners.

The Trinamool Congress chief further warned that if genuine voters are removed from electoral rolls during the voter list revision process, her party would strongly oppose the move. She alleged that attempts were being made in some places to delete legitimate voters’ names from the list.

Banerjee said such actions would undermine democracy and vowed that opposition parties would unite to challenge the government politically if voters’ rights are violated. She added that protecting the integrity of the electoral process is essential for maintaining public trust in the democratic system.

The remarks come amid increasing political tensions ahead of upcoming elections, with opposition parties intensifying criticism of the Centre over economic issues and electoral processes.
