Women-Only Iftar Event Planned at Bengal College to Promote Dialogue and Understanding

Kolkata: A unique women-only Iftar gathering titled “2026 Dosti Ki Iftar” is set to be organised at the Deeniyat Muallima College in Santragachi, located across the river from Kolkata. The event aims to create a safe and inclusive space where women can interact, share experiences, and foster mutual understanding.

The gathering is being jointly organised by the college and the city-based community initiative Know Your Neighbour. Organisers say the programme is designed specifically for women and by women, encouraging participants from diverse backgrounds to come together during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to encourage dialogue and build social harmony by bringing women together over the traditional Iftar meal, which marks the breaking of the daily fast during Ramadan. The event will include conversations, informal discussions, and opportunities for participants to exchange ideas and perspectives.

Organisers said the main objective of “Dosti Ki Iftar” is to break myths and stereotypes surrounding communities and cultures. By interacting directly with one another, women can better understand different traditions and beliefs, they said.

Students, educators, and social activists are expected to participate in the programme. The organisers believe that such gatherings can strengthen community ties and promote empathy, particularly in a diverse society where dialogue plays an important role in reducing misunderstandings.

The initiative has also drawn attention as a rare women-centric Iftar event, highlighting the role of women in promoting social engagement and community building. Organisers hope the programme will inspire similar initiatives in other educational institutions and neighbourhoods across the state.
