📰 WWII-Era Bomb Scare in Jharkhand: Police Seek Army’s Help to Defuse Active Device

A major security alert was triggered in Jharkhand after a suspected World War II-era bomb was discovered in Baharagora इलाके of East Singhbhum district, prompting police to seek assistance from the Army for safe disposal.

According to officials, the explosive device was found during local activity, after which the police immediately cordoned off the area to prevent any untoward incident. A team from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) based in Ranchi was rushed to the spot for preliminary assessment.

East Singhbhum (Rural) Superintendent of Police Rishav Garg confirmed that the BDDS team inspected the device and described it as “active” and significantly heavy, raising concerns about its potential danger.

“The device appears to be an old bomb, possibly from the World War II era. Given its condition and weight, we are not taking any chances and have sought expert assistance from the Army to neutralise it safely,” the officer said.

Authorities have evacuated nearby areas as a precautionary measure, and security has been tightened to restrict public access. Local residents have been advised to stay away from the site until the operation is completed.

Experts believe that such unexploded ordnance can remain hazardous even decades later, especially if disturbed. The Army’s bomb disposal unit is expected to take charge of the situation and carry out a controlled operation to defuse or safely dispose of the device.

The discovery has caused concern among locals, though officials have assured that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure public safety.

Further updates are awaited as the Army prepares to carry out the delicate operation.
