🔴 Youth Congress Protest at AI Summit Tarnished India’s Image: Pramod Sawant

Pramod Sawant on Thursday criticised the protest staged by the Indian Youth Congress during the recent AI Summit in Goa, calling it an act of “political recklessness” that tarnished India’s image on an international platform.

🏛️ CM’s Strong Reaction

Addressing reporters, Sawant said the disruption at a global technology event sent the wrong message to international delegates and investors.

“When the world is looking at India as a rising technology hub, such protests damage the country’s reputation. Political differences should not be displayed at international forums,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that the AI Summit was aimed at showcasing India’s advancements in artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital infrastructure, and that the protest overshadowed the event’s core objectives.

🤖 What Happened at the AI Summit?

Members of the Youth Congress reportedly staged a demonstration outside the summit venue, raising slogans and highlighting various issues. While the protest remained largely peaceful, security personnel had to intervene to prevent disruptions near the main event area.

Police officials ensured that the summit proceedings continued without interruption, and no major law and order situation was reported.

⚖️ ‘Political Recklessness’

Sawant termed the protest “misplaced” and accused the opposition’s youth wing of attempting to gain publicity at the cost of the country’s global standing.

He said international conferences are platforms to attract:

  • Foreign investment

  • Technology partnerships

  • Startup collaborations

  • Research and development opportunities

“Such platforms should not be politicised,” he added.

🗣️ Opposition’s Stand

The Youth Congress, however, defended its action, stating that it was exercising its democratic right to protest. Leaders from the organisation said their demonstration was meant to highlight pressing public issues and was not intended to disrupt the summit.

🌍 Broader Context

The AI Summit in Goa saw participation from policymakers, tech entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and international delegates, aiming to position India as a key player in emerging technologies.

The incident has sparked a wider debate over the balance between democratic protests and maintaining decorum at high-profile international events.

Further political reactions are expected as the issue continues to generate discussion across party lines.
