Second Spell of Snowfall Blankets High-Altitude Areas of Uttarakhand

Dehradun: High-altitude regions of Uttarakhand witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall, bringing down temperatures sharply and covering the Himalayan shrines and surrounding peaks in a thick white blanket. This marks the second significant snowfall in the region this season, boosting the winter chill across upper reaches.

Second Spell

Snowfall was reported in and around Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district, where cloudy skies persisted through the day. Pilgrimage routes and trekking paths in these high-altitude areas experienced light to moderate accumulation, though no major disruptions were immediately reported.

Local authorities stated that while snowfall enhanced the scenic beauty of the region, road connectivity in some upper stretches may be temporarily affected if precipitation continues. The administration has kept disaster response teams on alert as a precautionary measure.

In contrast, the plains including Dehradun experienced dry weather conditions, with only partial cloud cover and no rainfall. Temperatures in the plains remained comparatively stable, though a dip is expected if cold winds intensify from the higher altitudes.

Weather officials indicated that the prevailing western disturbance is responsible for the fresh snowfall in the Himalayan belt. According to forecasts, light snow may continue in isolated high-altitude pockets over the next 24–48 hours, followed by clearer skies later in the week.

The fresh spell has brought cheer to local tourism operators, as snow-covered landscapes are expected to attract visitors seeking winter experiences in the hill districts.
